Triple Theo, Part One
July 17th, 2007
Interview. Katya (Sienna Miller) is a B-list actress who likes to drink red wine and jump on her furniture. Journalist Pierre (Steve Buscemi) has been commissioned to write a piece about her, an assignment he views as a right kick in the balls for someone who normally covers the Washington political beat.
Buscemi also directed, and both he and Miller act well enough to maintain a good amount of intensity- not an easy task considering that the film was shot almost entirely in one location. But the script is too weak to support why these two characters feel drawn to each other, or why either one sticks around as the conversation gets more and more absurd.
Interview is the first of three Theo Van Gogh films to be remade and released since his death in 2004. It was ultimately the fascinating story of Van Gogh and his murder on the streets of Amsterdam that drove me to see this film. But as I left the cinema I thought, the Triple Theo project is a nice homage to Van Gogh, but what I really want to see is a film about HIS life.
